Click to hear our ad: FIREWORKS SAFETY - JULY, 2008.

There are many opportunities to enjoy fireworks in Southwest Michigan. The professional displays surrounding the Fourth of July celebration and the many area summer festivals are the best way to enjoy fireworks. However, fireworks designed for personal enjoyment are plentiful as well, and enjoyable when used safely.

When using fireworks for personal use, always take significant precautions. Only buy legal fireworks, and follow the package instructions for proper use. Use fireworks outdoors only, and always have water nearby. Don’t let children light fireworks and keep spectators at a safe distance. Never re-light a "dud" firework; let it sit for 20 minutes and then soak it in water. Most of all, use common sense and remember that alcohol and fireworks don’t mix well.
